Milos Island Greece

Milos Island Greece

There is so much to say about this island that I have visited a few times and have never gotten tired of going back, only to find it more appealing. Contact Greece Tours for more on Milos and where to stay based on Experience.

Milos or Melos is a volcanic Greek island in the Aegean Sea, just north of the Sea of Crete. Milos is the southwestern-most island in the Cyclades group.

The Venus de Milo, the Poseidon of Melos and the Asclepius of Milos were all found on the island, as was an archaic Apollo now in Athens.

Milos. honestly, Milos is our favorite island in the world! We love how it has such a quiet and remote feel and even though it’s a little island, there is so much to do and explore and see.

We’ve actually been four times, because we love it that much! And we’re always planning a trip back, because that’s how special it is to us. Part of what makes Milos so amazing is that you get the true authentic Greek feeling .

Many members that have traveled with me across Greece and the islands rate MILOS as the top destination, even surpassing Santorini and Mykonos

Best Time of Year to Visit:

The best time of year to visit Milos is from late April to the end of September. In the winter, the island gets really windy and most things close down for the season. It’s for sure busiest in June and July, but the water is the warmest end of August and September.
We like going in May or September , because even though the water is colder, the weather is still sunny and beautiful, and the accommodations aren’t as booked out (or expensive).

How to Get to Milos:

Most cruise ships don’t go to Milos, and there’s usually only one ferry a day from most nearby islands. You can either take a ferry (we took Sea Jets from Santorini to Milos) from a nearby island or a flight from Athens. In the summer, there are a few flights per day from Athens to Milos on Aegean Air. Since there aren’t a ton of ferries or flights going to the island each day, it’s a bit harder to get to, which makes it a little more exclusive.

THE CHORA of MILOS /  PLAKA
Set on a hill approx 6km from the port town of Adamas – The chora offers amazing views and at times you will think that you are on Santorini, but with less tourists and I hope it stays that way .
There are frequent busses to the top and back that run every 20 – 30 min..
Plaka is the chief town in Milos, a Greek island in the Cyclades group. It is perched on the top of large rock, overlooking the gulf of Milos. No cars can enter the village because of the narrow spaces between walls and buildings. Motorbikes, mopeds and the like are the only usable vehicles.
