Alonissos island Greece is filled with many little villages. The Chora, also known as the Old Town of Alonissos, is one of the most beautiful, presenting traditional buildings and old churches along narrow alleys.

Patitiri is the capital and main port of the island and offers most of the tourist facilities, while the villages of Steni Vala and Votsi are perfect for an evening walk and a lovely meal in a seaside tavern.

The beaches of Alonissos

Known for their wild beauty and enchanting atmosphere. Agios Dimitrios is by far the most popular, boasting white sand and azure waters, along with plenty of facilities. The beaches of Chrisi Milia and Roussom Gialos are also among the top swimming spots, while Glyfa and Agios Petros are more isolated and usually less busy

When to Go

April, May and October are the best months to travel. Spring time the wildflowers are sensational, and it is not too hot to explore its many well-marked footpaths, beaches and off-shore islands, and the summer holiday-makers haven’t yet arrived

August is the busiest month, with a small influx of Greeks. Late September and October are perfect for swimming, as the sea is still beautifully warm and there are very few people around – sometimes you feel as if you have the island almost to yourself.
